PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Tirad Pass Bronze Medal, 1944. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
43.5 mm; 35.79 gms. Basso-168. With Ribbon. Bust of General Gregorio Del Pilar with a view of Tirad Pass in the background. Lower uniform has initials J.P.L. 1944. The only medal issued by the Government of the Philippines during the occupation, and EXTREMELY RARE. Contributing members on the bulletin board of the Orders and Medals Society of America suggest there were only 16 issued, 15 of which were alleged to have been posthumous. Includes the original box and envelope of issue from Manila based silversmith Crispula Zamora; the medal is unquestionably authentic. Essentially as issued, thick patination with even homogeneous coloration on both sides. Well struck and preserved, the ribbon shows no spots or other discoloration. Possibly the only opportunity to add this important and historically significant medal for many years to come. CHOICE EXTREMELY FINE.
From the Ray Czahor Collection.
Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
