PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Bronze Tirad Pass Medal with Ribbon. EXTREMELY FINE.
43.5 mm; 36.84 gms. Basso-168. With loop and ribbon. VERY RARE. Wreathed portrait of General Gregorio Del Pilar with Tirad Pass in the background. Lower uniform "J.P.L./ 1944". The only military medal or decoration issued by the Filipino government during the Japanese occupation. Contemporary accounts suggest only 16 of these were issued, all but one posthumously. Attractive even reddish-brown coloration on the obverse with patchy slight porosity on the reverse. The ribbon is bright and fresh, with a pin clasp lacking corrosion. EXTREMELY FINE.
