RUSSIA. Silver Girl's School Prize Medal, 1914. EXTREMELY FINE.
44.8 mm; 46.3 gms. cf.Diakov-1140.3. From the tail end of the Tsarist era, by 1914 the end of Imperial Russia had already been sealed with Russia's disastrous entry into World War I. This medal depicts the last of the more tranquil aspects of domestic life in Russia prior to the revolution. Unsigned bust of Nicholas II to the left, his name and title in Cyrillic around; Reverse: Eight grapevines under warming sun, banner above translates: "Visit Grapes These". In exergue: "For Distinction" and the partial date 191 struck up in the die and the final digit, "4", stamped at the end. As Diakov 1140.3, but that piece was for the previous decade, with the partial date 190-. An old polishing has resulted in microscopic hairlines over the surfaces, both sides, which does not detract too much from the overall look of the piece. Lightly toned and attractive. EXTREMELY FINE.
Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
