SPAIN. Silver & Copper Minors, 3rd-17th Century. VERY GOOD-VERY FINE.
32 pieces in lot. A marvelous collection of well attributed Spanish minors covering most of the rulers prior to the 17th century with no duplication. Begins with several Roman bronzes (Tetricus II, Valens) then moves on through the Visigoth, Umayyads of Spain, and Hammudids of Malaga era, with a single coin for each issuing authority. This is followed by more purely Spanish coinage: Castile Dinero struck under Alfonso I of Aragon; Castile & Leon Obolo struck under Alfonso X The Wise; Castile & Leon Cornado struck under Sancho IV; Castile & Leon Cornado Noven struck under Alfonso XI The Noble; Castile Blanca struck under Juan II; Castile Blanca struck under Henry IV; followed by a nice half-dozen run of coins from Ferdinand and Isabella (mostly in silver) in denominations up to 4 Reales. Reverting back to mostly copper, the collection continues with multiple examples from Juan & Charles; Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV (including an 8 Reales from Toledo 1650-62) and finally ends with a 1718 Philip V 4 Maravedis. For the collector acquiring the lot, it will provide a terrific springboard towards completing a collection of Spanish rulers, with the 18th and 19th century missing but most of the earlier coinage represented. The coins all appear to be original, with a decent amount of wear on many of them, but with a few as nice as Very Fine. No question one of the most compelling group lots in the sale. Approximate retail value of $2,500. Inspection advised. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. VERY GOOD-VERY FINE.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
