GERMANY. Prussia. 5 Mark, 1888-A. Friedrich III (1888). NGC MS-65.
KM-512. Struck the year of three Emperors, or three Kaisers, with Friedrich III reigning for only 99 days, but apparently long enough to mint copious quantities of coins, his portrait coinage being far more common than the later Wilhelm II coins, with none struck for his predecessor Wilhelm I that year in the 5 Mark denomination. That all said, the coin is a fabulous representation of German Imperial ambition at a time when the unified Germany had recently become a world power. Full struck satin luster with a touch of tone, and as the grade suggests virtually mark-free surfaces. A coin that should draw considerable interest from collectors of Prussia and world crowns alike. NGC MS-65.
Estimate: $200.00- $300.00
