GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (ca. 1158-63). Henry II (1154-89). NGC VF-30.
S-1337. A real slice of 12th century British history. Considered the father of English Common Law, and the driving force behind establishing the English Monarchy, Henry II has historically been only remembered for his feud with Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury. Becket was eventually murdered then went on to become a saint both in the Catholic Church as well as the Anglican Church. The coin offered here was struck while Becket was still alive. While the legends are a bit blundered and off the flan, the all important portrait is quite sharp and clear, as is the reverse cross. NGC VF-30.

Estimate: $200.00- $300.00
