ITALY. Isotta Deglia Atti Portrait Medal, Dated 1446 (Recast). EXTREMELY FINE.
81 mm; 211.6 gms. cf.Kress-63; cf.Pollard-34. Bust of youthful Isotta right, her hair fashionably done up in conical that falls over a jeweled frame. Rev: Elephant walking right, dated in Roman Numerals below. A later recast with the upper reverse legend and rosebushes to the right and left of the elephant removed from the design, and the second hair cone essentially eliminated. A medal by Renaissance Master Matteo di Andrea de' Pasti (a sculptor, architect and painter active in Venice, Verona and Rimini from 1441-1467/8). this medal is one of several with her image commissioned by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. Isotta was his mistress from her early teens until the death of Malatesta's second wife eventually allowed the couple to wed. A prime example of Renaissance era medallic artwork, the medal boasts fine medium chocolate patina overall with lighter highlights on the portrait and elephant. The surfaces are smooth and show only a few minor casting flaws. Pierced at top for suspension. A choice example of this always in demand medal that should attract considerable bidder interest. EXTREMELY FINE.

Estimate: $200.00- $300.00
