MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1841/31-GoPJ. NGC MS-62.
DP-Go23; KM-377.8. A much sought after overdate that is not nearly as available as the normal date, especially at this grade level. A peculiarly fascinating variety showing three bold raised dots after date, 1841:. The placing of the dots was deliberate, and are likely what the late Walter Breen called "Masonic punctuation", one of the myriad symbols of Freemasonry. Mexican Masons were bitterly divided between adherents of the York Rite, or Yorkistas, and the later-arriving Scottish Rite or Escosses. This remarkable coin may be a link to that era. Well struck with exceptional details, light tone, and very few marks. NGC MS-62.
Estimate: $250.00- $350.00
