MEXICO. Carranza's Triumphal Entrance to Mexico City Bronze Medal, 1916. VERY FINE.
70 mm; 129 gms. Grove-P41bp. By J. M. Swanson. Bust of Venustiano Carranza slightly left within a wreath bearing a plaque inscribed "14 ABRIL 1916." Inscription "CONSTITUCION Y REFORMAS" above. Reverse with Mexican Eagle above 9 lines of inscription. Edge marked "WHITEHEAD-HOAG". Of special interest is an additional engraving of 15 names on the obverse: "HILL, AGUILAR, VILLARREAL, DIEGUEZ, GONZALEZ, GOMEZ, TOPETE, CALLES, CASTRO, SERRANO, FIGUEROA, OBREGON, FLORES, and COSS – mostly well-known Carrancistas". The actual reason for the addition of the names is no longer known, but it seems likely that they were added to acknowledge the efforts of Carranza's fellow soldiers and supporters in achieving their victory. Significant edge bumps as well as heavy contact marks on the portrait, never the less an historical and one of a kind piece. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. VERY FINE.

Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
