Hadrian. A.D. 117-138. AR denarius (18.7 mm, 3.31 g, 7 h). Rome mint, struck A.D. 134-138. HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, bare head right / TELLVS STABIL, Tellus standing left, holding plow handle and rake; two grain stalks to right. RIC 276; BMC 739; RSC 1425a. VF.

Tellus was the earth goddess, closely associated with bountiful harvests and motherhood. Her eastern counterpart was Cybele. Hadrian is the only emperor to strike coins in the name of Tellus.
