Caracalla. A.D. 198-217. AR denarius (18.7 mm, 3.50 g, 12 h). Rome mint, struck A.D. 202. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / VICTORIA PARTH MAX, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm. RIC 145; BMCRE 298; RSC 661. VF.

In A.D. 197, Septimius Severus returned to the Parthian front to reclaim lost territory, then invading Parthia itself, easily dispatching the Parthians at Ctesiphon. Severus marched into Rome in A.D. 202, with his then 14 year old son Caracalla, to celebrate their victory.
