Tairona Shaman Tumbaga Pendant, 1000-1500 AD. A very attractive tumbaga from the Tairona culture in Columbia, ca. 1000-1500 AD. This tumbaga depicts a shaman holding two funeraries. 1 1/2" tall, 27 gms, with intact suspension loops. A very high quality tumbaga. Retail value $750-1500.Tumbagas are made from a naturally occurring alloy of gold and copper, typically around 30% gold and 70% copper. The saurian piece is slightly more red than the other, indicating a higher copper composition. Tumbagas are generally hollow, as are these two examples.
