Apulia, Nomos, Tarentum, c. 470-450 BC; AR (g 8,10; mm 20; h 3); Oecist riding dolphin l., both arms extended; below, shell, dotted border, Rv. Hippocamp swimming l. Vlasto 133; HNItaly 827; SNG Copenhagen 776; SNG ANS 840.
Rare, cabinet tone, high conservation and fascinating coin, good extremely fine.
Rutter incorrectly places this issue alongside the earlier hippocamp series with a spread, flat flan. Fischer-Bossert's die study clearly shows that this issue is from the period contemporary with the Satyra issues.
