Galba (68-69), Dupondius, Rome, late summer AD 68; AE (g 14,18; mm 29; h 6); SER GALBA IMP - CAES AVG, laureate and draped bust r., Rv. PA - X - AVGVST, Pax standing l., holding branch and cornucopiae; in field, S - C. RIC 279; C -.
Bold portrait, riverine patina and large flan. A real numismatic gem: about fdc.
This coin was struck at the time when Senate and praetorians accorded to Galba recognition as Nero's legitimate successor. The reverse with personification of Pax probably refers to the peaceful rise of Galba after Nero's death.
