MEDALS BY SUBJECT, Exploration, Belgian Congo, Henry Morton Stanley (born John Rowlands, 1841-1904), African Explorer, joint tribute Copper Medal, 1890, by F Baetes, for the Municipal Council, the Royal Geographical Society and the Chamber of Commerce, Antwerp, crowned arms of Antwerp with wildman and wildwoman supporters, rev legends within and around wreath, named, TO HENRY M STANLEY, 64mm. Very fine, perhaps better.
At a banquet held in Antwerp to honour Stanley, he was presented with an example of this medal in gold, whilst all others attending the banquet received a specimen in copper.
