Celtic, Belgae, uninscribed coinage, (c.60-20 BC), gold Stater, 5.72g, 'Cheriton Wheel' type, wreath with pelleted bar intersecting, abstract hair and face around, tapering lines at top, recut die, rev. horse right, rider above, wheel below, eye behind (ABC 758 var; VA-; S.-), obverse die worn, reverse weakly struck at top, underlying tone on smooth surfaces, very fine for this, an excessively rare set of dies. John Sills of the Ashmolean Museum has commented that this piece appears to be a worn, re-cut obverse die of ABC 758 paired with a new reverse die of the same series.
