L. Hostilius Saserna. AR Denarius, 48 BC. Obv. Female head right (Venus or Piety) wearing oak wreath with branches. Rev. L. HOSTILIVS SASERNA. Victory advancing right, holding caduceus and palm branch. Cr. 448/1 a var. B. 5 var. AR. g. 3.95 mm. 19.00 R. EF. An interesting rare variety, with the oak branches which from the wreath cover the hair (cf. NAC 63, RBW Collection, lot 344 and note).
