Halfcrown 1879 Obv. 3 Rev. E - a newly discovered young head rev. Only two examples are known to Peter Davies. This coin may be 587P, although somewhat impaired, in which case this catalogued proof should now become rev. E. Rev. E differs from rev. D by having the 'Regina Fid' closer with the crown's top crosses almost identical. The crown's lower jewels are more ornate and the emblems' garland is smaller with the thistle now touching its leaf. The 'I' of 'Fid' points to a space not a bead as rev. D. Both known examples of obv. 3, when paired with rev. E, have a small circular patch of slightly raised lines below the ear lobe. This example has underlying proof-like fields, NEF with some even field imperfections, possibly from past incorrect storage
