CHINA. Ambassador Hart Silver Medal, ND (ca. 1896-1908). VERY FINE.
28 mm; 13.72 gms (inclusive of ribbon). Unlisted. Chihli Dragon. Presented to Sir Robert Hart, 1st Baronet and consular official who served as the second Inspector-General of China's Imperial Maritime Custom Service from 1863-1911 in China. The iconography of the dragon on this medal is very similar to the coinage issued from Chihli around the turn of the century (Possibly made from a cut down 1899 3 Mace 6 Candareens) and presumably the medal was awarded around this same time. Nicely preserved with medium tone and no fraying evident in the ribbon. VERY FINE.
Estimate: $350.00- $500.00
