French Colony silver Specimen Piastre 19xx (1931) SP62 PCGS, Lec-276. A highly reflective example of this rare trial issue, marked ESSAI on both the obverse and reverse die, and bearing only the first two digits in the date. Certainly qualifying as choice in eye-appeal and technical merit with no distracting marks, obverse surfaces that are tone-free and a reverse that only holds a touch of eggplant-purple color in the centers. Only the second example of this coveted type we have sold, and in our opinion, finer than the previous example that brought $12,925 in our January 2014 New York auction.
