Banded Calcedony, Hellenistic Period, 2nd-1st Century B.C. An intaglio with two faces: Athena Nikophoros facing behind, head turned, over an altar to right; in right hand, Nike, In left hand, trident of Poseidon / Winged Nike facing right with deer behind, head facing backwards taking feed from Nike. Restored from two pieces, edge chipped. The gem celebrates Athena's victory over Poseidon in claiming Athens. Ex Malter Galleries, 2008.
