INDIA, Post-Gupta (Gauda). Sasanka Deva. Circa AD 600-635. AV Dinar (22mm, 5.79 g, 11h). Samatata type. Assam mint. Siva, nimbate and holding trident, seated facing on recumbent bull left; pellet above; śri ja in eastern Brahmi below / Lakshmi, nimbate, holding bilva fruit and lotus, seated facing on open lotus; śri sasanka in eastern Brahmi to right. While Sasanka struck debased dinars on the old Kushan standard, which circulated in the Gauda heartland of the Ganges, for his eastern possessions, in the hill country of Assam, he struck a rare fine gold dinar based on the local 50 ratti standard.
