BHOPAL:LOT of 20 countermarked copper paisas (uniface except for C-20), produced circa 1830-1860: C-20, bhopal on obverse, scimitar & "29" on reverse; C-21a, sikka bhopal and date AH1255 (3 pcs); C-21b, regnal year below whisk & scimitar, including year 13, 14, 26 (2 pcs), 27 (2 pcs), and undated; C-21c, fath plus scimitar and year 8; C-21d: Persian letter J, with sana and year 5 above (7 pcs, probably all from different stamps); and C-21x, scimitar with blundered number below (perhaps poorly engraved type C-21b), mostly Fine to VF, a few with some porosity, retail $500, lot of 20 pieces, ex Paul Stevens Collection. This is the most impressive collection of these remarkable countermarked coins we have yet encountered, all rare, most in excellent preservation, a unique opportunity to acquire so profound a selection.
