PORTUGAL: Maria II, 1834-1853, AR 870 reis, ND [1834], KM-440.4, Gomes M2-21.40, crowned shield countermarked on Bolivian 8 reales 1820-PTS assayer PJ, for continued circulation in metropolitan Portugal, VF to EF on cleaned F-VF host. In 1834, the Portuguese government ordered countermarking of all Spanish Colonial 8 Reales in circulation with the crowned arms of Portugal, to indicate a revaluation to 870 Reis.
