GREAT SELJUQ: Muhammad I, 1099-1118, AV dinar (3.16g), A-1683var, muling of two reverse dies, one of the Ghaznavid ruler Mas'ud I (AH421-432) with his standard titles and the caliph al-Qa'im (style of Nishapur mint), the other of the Great Seljuq ruler Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad I (AH492-511) together with the caliphal heir 'Umdat al-Dawla Abu Mansur (style of Madinat al-Salam mint), slightly crinkled, VF, RRR. The reverse die is of the type used at Madinat al-Salam AH509-511, very similar to that of the 509 piece illustrated by Jaffar (S.MS.509B). The combinations of "wandering dies" were discussed in an important article by Nicholas Lowick that appeared in ANS Museum Notes 28, pp.187-193.

Estimate: 250-350 USD
