SAFAVID: 'Abbas I, 1588-1629, AV ½ mithqal (2.33g), Herat, ND, A-2628, type C (3-panel obverse), minimal weakness around the rim, of the higher rarity, almost certainly unique, EF, RRRR. 'Abbas I struck very few coins at Herat. We know of only 3 gold coins of Herat for this reign, two of which appear in this auction. Moreover, this is the only type C gold coin of 'Abbas I that we have seen.
