QIUZI: Anonymous, 5th-6th century, AE cash (2.33g), H-10.48, XN-65, wu shu, reverse in yet undeciphered Qiuzi script, Chinese characters in barbarous calligraphy, likely a contemporary imitation, Fine, S. Qiuzi is the old Chinese transcription for the Tokharian name of the old kingdom of Kucha, a very important state on the middle route of the Silk Road from the Han to the Tang dynasty period. Qiuzi, one of the numerous states of the ancient Western Region, covered roughly the present day Kucha County of Xinjiang Province. The place was under the jurisdiction ot the Xiyu Duhufu of the Han Dynasty.
