RUSSIAN COINS AND MEDALS, Peter I, 1689-1725, Medal. Silver. 66.5 mm. By Peter Paul Werner. On the Birth of Peter the Great, 1672. Diakov 1.1 (R2), Reichel 880 (R1), Sokolov 041 (R2), Tiregale 1, Sm --. Conjoined half-figures of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov and his second wife Natalia Kirillovna Naryshkina r., wearing richly embroidered robes, holding scepter and orb / Angel sitting r. on cloud hands the infant Peter to Russia, seated beside Russian Arms on scrolled shield. The engraver's name has been neatly tooled out on the lower obverse, possibly so the medal at the time could have been passed off as the work of a contemporary Russian medalist. Very rare and the very first in the whole Russian medal series. Once lightly cleanedVery fine
