RUSSIAN COINS AND MEDALS, Peter I, 1689-1725, Medal. Silver. 42 mm. By Georg Hautsch. On the Victories of Karl XII of Sweden in the Great Northern War, 1700-1703. Slg. Marienburg 9167, Hildebrand 78, Pfau 1006. Half-figure of the Swedish king ¾ r., his head turned left, wearing fur-trimmed waistcoat, holding a spyglass, his other hand on a baton or sword hilt; two-line legend in palm-decorated cartouche below / Three crowns over crossed sword and branch, six medallions in the field inscribed with the names of the Swedish victories, Elbing and the date 1703 below. Elbing was seized by the Elector of Brandenburg that year as security for a debt owed him by the Polish king. It was then taken and held to ransom by Karl XII. Some contact marks.
