Philip V 2 Reales 1732 Mo-F F15 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM84. Pleasing for the assigned grade with even wear, no distracting flaws and all crucial details still sharp. The iconic and very rare first date in the series, traditionally considered as the key to completing the 2 Reales series, and always found in wretched condition. The present coin - currently the second finest in NGC's census - ranks indeed as one of the finest extant and vastly desirable as such: it is clearly superior to both the Gerber (Spink America 12/1995, lot 161: a Fine, plugged example) and Patterson (Bonham's 7/1996, lot 79: a pierced and chopmarked coin) specimens (the date was absent from the generally comprehensive Norweb group).
Estimate: 1200-1500 USD
