Republic gold Onza 1868 PTS-FP XF Details (Plugged, Repaired, Cleaned) NGC, Potosi mint, KM142, Fr-37. Rather skillfully plugged at 12 o'clock and well detailed thus not unattractive despite the noted shortcomings. The edge defect between "LA" and "FUERZA" is obviously mint made, since also present on the ex. Farouk (Sotheby's 2-3/1954, lot 2048) trial strike in silver of this rarity. A well-pedigreed and affordable example of one of the classic rarities in the onza South American series, with 6-7 confirmed examples by the cataloguer, and eminently collectible as such. Ex. Ake Linden (Baldwin's Auctions 9/2014, lot 3008 for £4,000) and Norweb (Spink America 3/1997, lot 79 for $2,900) collections.
Estimate: 4000-5000 USD
