British West Indies
British Colony - George IV copper Pattern 1/50 Dollar 1823 SP35 PCGS, KM-Pn5, Pridmore-15. According to Pridmore," The copper fractions of the dollar in the denominations of 1/50, 1/100, and 1/200 were approved in 1822 and intended for circulation in Sierra Leone (West Africa), Mauritius (Indian Ocean), and the West Indies. The dies were prepared by William Wyon and 5 tons weight of the 1/50 value were struck but never issued. They were ordered to be melted down in 1825. Only occurs as a pattern." All remaining examples are quite rare, and seldom offered. This piece seems to have circulated, as it has an even brown color, with numerous handling marks on both sides.
