Republic gold 8 Escudos 1829 POPAYAN-UR AU53 NGC, Popayan mint, KM82.2. Rather boldly struck for the type and attractive for the designation with scant high-point wear, pleasant light orange toning and contained handling evidence. A minor, essentially inconsequential, planchet flaw seen on the reverse at 7 o'clock is mentioned for accuracy. A scarcer date for the type, rarely seen in higher preservation and currently the finest of only three certified examples by NGC, thus quite desirable as such.
