Divus Julius Caesar (died 44 BC). AR denarius (20mm, 3.58 gm, 7h). Issue of Ti. Sempronius Gracchus, 40 BC. Laureate head of Caesar right / TI ∙ SEMPRONIVS GRACCH[VS] Q. DESIG, legionary standard, legionary eagle, plow and measuring rod. Crawford 525/4c. CRI 327. RSC 48. One of the rarest Caesar portrait types, and a rare variety also, lacking the obverse S - C. Struck on a broad, lozenge-shaped flan and nicely toned. Metal somewhat granular, otherwise Good Very Fine. Ex CNG Mail Bid 55 (13 September 2000), lot 13.
