Dutch Colony - United Amsterdam Company 1/4 Real ND (1601) XF40 NGC, Dordrecht mint (Holland), Sch-6 (RR), Salv-16. A stunning brown-toned example of this great rarity, boldly detailed for the issue, with smooth fields that show only a couple unobtrusive marks. According to the cataloger of the Salvesen Collection, only 16 pieces were known as of 1988. Assuming the present example was in that census, it must certainly be among the finest, as the present coin appears to best the example inside the carefully curated Salvesen Collection and we have encountered no finer. A treasure for the specialist.
