João V gold 12800 Reis 1732-M MS64+ NGC, Vila Rica mint, KM139, Russo-288. Very Choice Uncirculated with a very small area of planchet roughness to the left of the "X" in "REX" on the obverse likely preventing the otherwise fully-deserved Gem designation. A most impressive coin, fully lustrous with a meticulously sharp strike and remarkable clean surfaces devoid of the usual abrasions found on this large gold issue. Undoubtedly one of the very finest extant Minas dobras, easily the finest seen of the date by the cataloger with only two other coins, both dated 1733-M, currently certified higher (MS65) for the entire type by NGC. Extremely rare and desirable in this lofty technical designation, and an essentially unsurpassable representative of this massive and iconic Colonial gold issue.
Estimate: 20000-30000 USD
