Christian IX gold Specimen Christian d'or 1869-(C) HC//CS SP65 PCGS, KM778 var. (unlisted as specimen), Fr-294 var. (same). Apparently the only recorded specimen/proof of this already rare issue; the business-strike mintage was a minuscule 539. This is clearly some sort of special striking; the fields are highly reflective, the devices lightly frosted, and the rims very sharp. Some hairlines are noted in the fields under magnification, but most of the tiny marks that one notices with the naked eye are simply die polish lines. All in all a very special piece, and very possibly a unique opportunity to acquire one in such a finish. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $3250 in VF, $6000 in EF.
Estimate: 12000-14000 USD
