Edward III (1327-77) gold Noble 1369-77 MS67+ NGC, Calais mint, Post-treaty period, Group III, S-1521, North-1281. King standing facing in ship holding a sword and shield, a banner at the stern / Ornate cross with lis at ends and crowned lions in each quarter, Є• in the center. A singularly graded example of this issue, rarely certified in Mint State, much less at this stratospheric level. In fact, this specimen is the single finest graded English hammered gold coin of any type by either NGC or PCGS. The strike is executed as close to perfection as one can expect of this type, applied to a broad and very straight flan. Frosty luster accentuates pristine surfaces, the die-work visible under a glass bolstering the originality of this stunning piece. Exceedingly rare thus and deserving of inclusion in the finest of cabinets.
