James I gold Rose Ryal ND (1623-24) XF45 NGC, Third coinage, Lis mm, S-2632, North-2108. A beautiful specimen with deep red toning and a relatively good strike. On such a large and thin hammered gold coin, there is often found areas of unevenness or weakness. Unfortunately on this specimen, the main area of weakness is right on the face of King James on the obverse; otherwise, though, the legends and backdrop to the throne of James are strong. Some even wear, but essentially problem-free as far as post-striking defects. A rare and ever-desirable type.

Estimate: 20000-30000 USD
