Great Britain
Charles I gold Unite (20 Shillings) 1644 MS62 PCGS, Oxford mint, S-2735, North-2389. Longer olive branch curving to left. Obv. · CAROLVS D G MAG BR FR ET HI REX, bust of Charles facing left holding sword and olive branch, XX behind. Rev. XVRGAT · DEVS · DISSIPENTVR · INIMICI · around, RELIG PRO/LEG ANG/LIB PAR in three lines as central device; three plumes above, 1644/OX below. A beautiful specimen of a type very rarely found in Mint State. Some die polish lines are noted in the obverse fields that should not be mistaken for hairlines. The last example to be offered at public auction was sold by Spink in May, 2015 (Spink 15031, lot 303) for 58,000 GBP, or $91,224 at the time. That piece was perhaps slightly better struck, as far as not having any areas of weakness in the legends, but overall the appearance of the two pieces is remarkably similar. This is surely a singular opportunity for the collector of British gold to obtain one the finest Charles I unites available on the market!
