Victoria Proof Shilling 1871 PR65+ PCGS, Royal mint, KM734.2, S-3906A. Plain edge, die #19. Beautiful deep red and blue toning on fully natural and original surfaces. Quite a visually stunning piece. According to the Standard Catalog of British Coins, as well as the Krause catalog, the 1871 proof plain edge shilling is slightly rarer, or at least more desirable, than the milled edge variety. The last time we handled one of these was nearly a decade ago, in January, 2007 (Heritage 425, lot 51792), where a PCGS PR64 sold for $5,000 hammer. None have been currently graded by NGC, and just three by PCGS, with this being the single finest by a point and a half.
Estimate: 6000-8000 USD
