Victoria Proof 1/2 Crown 1881 PR64 PCGS, Royal mint, KM756, S-3889. Reeded edge. Rare in both condition and availability, this absolutely stunning specimen appears to be evenly toned in gunmetal gray, however, upon closer inspection reveals itself to be showered in vivacious iridescent luster that resides beneath the patina, enchanting the eye when rotated, and setting the portrait of Victoria and the reverse shield motif awash in a halo of vivid color. Few examples of this date in a Proof of record date have sold over the last handful of years--the most recent specimen hammered for $15,000 in our 2015 NYINC auction--and this present selection is its equal in every way. Furthermore, in consulting the census reports, there are currently only three 1/2 Crowns of this date certified in this top Proof condition. None graded higher. Thus, this dazzling selection excites from start to finish, and is most definitely worthy of great attention and a premium bid.
