Thorn. Johann Casimir gold Ducat 1659-HDL AU Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, KM33, GUM-1957, Fr-60. Obv. Crowned bust right. Rev. Angel over city arms. A superb example of this extremely rare issue. The strike is quite nice for a near-400 year old issue, with bright, full luster and no major flaws. The flan is a tiny bit wavy, as are many of the gold issues of this vintage, and we find talking of "Surface Hairlines," that you can hardly see, on a near-400 year old gold issue to be a bit over the top. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $5200 in VF, $8500 in EF.
