Thorn. August II gold Ducat 1702 AU55 NGC, KM55, Fr-67, HCz-2626, Gum-2073, Kopicki-8374 (R6). Lustrous and placed on a far above-average flan, with a sharp portrait of the king and only minor doubling of the surrounding legends. Bright mint luster also remains, and when combined with the pleasing orange-gold patina, certainly places this among the finest known for this rare and coveted city issue; perhaps even conservatively graded. The only date for the type, and as such, of extreme importance for the advanced collector of early Polish coinage. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $9500 in VF, $15000 in EF.
Estimate: 20000-25000 USD
