Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1813 C-SF XF45 NGC, Catalonia mint, KM481, Fr-310, Cayon-16414, Onza-1197. Two-year type. Surely among the finest of all survivors and stunningly preserved for the grade. No marks that draw the eye's attention are visible over either side and bright, semi-prooflike luster surrounds the protected areas. Some incompleteness of strike and light circulation friction account for the grade, but the overall detail remains rather pleasing, Ferdinand's hair remaining sharp and the reverse shield showing only slight softening on the right side. Extremely rare and almost never offered as a type; including the present example, we show only two records of this date selling in the past decade. The other piece, sold by NAC in May of 2012, had more laureate detail, but its catalog description mentioned an edge defect (possible mount removal?) as well as small reverse scratches, making the present coin likely the more desirable of the two. All considered, an exceptional example and an opportunity that will be immediately recognized by expert collectors in the field.

Estimate: 15000-20000 USD
