ANCIENT COINS USED IN INDIA & INDIAN IMITATIONS. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. AV Aureus (21mm, 7.24 g, 5h). Cast Indian imitation. Manufactured after AD 212. SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right / P M TR P XV COS III P P, Jupiter seated left, holding Victory and scepter; at feet to left, eagle standing left, head right. RIC III –; Calicó 2514a = CNG 61, lot 1875; Turner –. Near VF, traces of deposits, rim nick, evidence of having been placed in a bezel. An interesting hybrid, combining an obverse of Septimius Severus and a reverse of Caracalla.
