SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 406-367 B.C. AR Decadrachm (43.32 gms), ca. 405-390 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style. Light Smoothing.
Gallatin-R.XXI/J.II. Unsigned work by Euainetos. Fast quadriga driven left by female charioteer leaning forward with a kentron in right hand and reins in left hand, Nike flying right to crown her, heavy exergual line and panoply of arms below; Reverse: Head of Arethusa left wearing barley wreath, four dolphins around, marred dot below chin. Some smoothing present, along with clear evidence of a doubled strike. Beautiful golden wheat hued toning hidden amongst Arethusa's locks of hair. Struck in fine style, and centered just right to allow for a majority of the reverse ethnic and the inscription underneath the trophies on the obverse. A brilliant example and certain to escalate the prestige of the collection it enters. Obverse is exceptional with only minor die rust. Minor smoothing on the reverse that is barely noticeable and does not detract from the overall beauty on this magnificent coin. NGC AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style. Light Smoothing.

Estimate: $20000.00- $30000.00
