BMC-10.40, 57. Chimaera facing left, fore-paw raised, wreath above; Reverse: Dove flying left, "N" before, all within wreath. An absolutely gorgeous example, featuring a sharp strike with fine style dies on a planchet of high quality.

The Chimaera is a famous mythical beast commonly depicted as a lion with the forepart of a goat emerging from its back with its lions tail ending in a snake's head. This monstrous creature could breath fire and was finally subdued by the hero Bellerophon who flew upon the winged Pegasus.
