COLCHIS? EL Half Stater (4.24 gms), ca. 2nd-1st Century B.C. BOLD VERY FINE.
A previously unlisted type in similar style to the Colchis issues imitating Alexander III (the Great) (336-323 B.C.) and Lysimachos (323-281 B.C.). The obverse features a stylized head (perhaps Alexander the Great) facing right; Reverse: Stylized eagle facing with spread wings. The obverse is countermarked at the portrait's forehead. An interesting piece deserving of further research. BOLD VERY FINE.
Estimate: $500.00- $700.00
