AUSTRIA. Medallic 1/2 Ducat, ND (ca. 1741). Maria Theresa (1740-80). NGC AU-55.
1.73 gms. Delicate youthful bust of the then Archduke Joseph, the future Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II, with light drapery at shoulders and legend around; Reverse: Austrian arms surrounded by the chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece. A commemorative issue struck to honor the awarding of the Order of the Golden Fleece to Maria Theresa's eldest son Joseph who later became Grand Master of the Order. Toned an attractive golden orange nearly throughout with only a light brush of handling on bust. Very lustrous and a nice little gem of history from the House of Habsburg. NGC AU-55.
